Glencoe, February 2023

Glencoe is one of Scotland’s most dramatic landscapes, a deep glacial valley surrounded by steep ridges and shifting weather. I visited in late February 2023, during a trip that also took me to the Isle of Lewis and Harris.

The conditions were what you’d hope for in a Scottish winter: low cloud, rain turning to snow, and brief clearings that lit up the valley walls. The mountains here have a presence that demands patience. I spent three days working in and around the glen, often waiting for the light to do something unexpected. These photographs are from those days of watching and responding.
